Welding stainless the right way
Each grade has its own filler: E308L rods for 304 and E316L for 316 (Lincoln 308L, Lincoln 316L). More in the welding rod guide.
After welding, the blue and brown heat tint around the weld is cleaned off and the steel is brushed with a stainless-only brush, so no iron dust is left to rust on the surface.

Which stainless is best near the sea?
Grade 316. It has 2–3% molybdenum, which resists salt air better than 304.
Is 201 stainless good for outdoor railings?
It has less nickel and rusts sooner outdoors. For outdoor work, 304 or 316 is the safer choice.
Can you mix stainless with painted steel?
Yes — for example a steel gate with a stainless handrail. Send a photo of the design you like.
